Gamification – Customer Attraction Post Covid 2022

We are about to enter a brave new world and we possibly need to do things a little bit differently if we are going to encourage customers to use products or services online or in a real-life interface. This is especially pertinent to the disposable income for the demographic of 18 – 30 year old’s.

gamification noun
1. the application of typical elements of game playing (e.g. point scoring, competition with others, rules of play) to other areas of activity, typically as an online marketing technique to encourage engagement with a product or service. “gamification is exciting because it promises to make the hard stuff in life fun”

Competition is going to fierce, especially after a levelling out period post Covid. Social media is going to be saturated and spend with those channels may not prove value for money. The trick is to stand out from the crowd and have that Unique Selling Point ‘USP’ as experiences are going to be what separates you from the competition. There are ways to stand out and the Governments Behavioural Insight Team and Behavioural Economics in general have many examples of lowkey gamification but what could work for your business?

High tech solutions

There have been many examples over the years, such as ‘spin the wheel’ for the chance to double up on drinks. However, these sorts of practices are frowned upon these days, and practically illegal in Scotland.

Whilst the list is not exhaustive, some examples of technological solutions that could fit your business.

1.Encourage patrons to download the app that automatically issues awards over a number of visits

2.Before confirming an order select a ‘spin to win’ option with outcomes such as free side dish, go large or a free drink

3.A completion task where you can collect virtual badges when visiting different branches with an award upon finishing

4.In app games that are only available after ordering until the food delivery

5.Using the app for the patron to upload a food review after their meal

The outcome is to retain customers, encourage repeat visits and for the reviewers to become the advocates of the brand.
